9 Day

Today was a special day for Year 6 A and T, because it is the 9th day of the 9th month of the 9th year. Today was the best day of the school year, except the last day of school, of course!

Everything that we done today were all about 9, 9 minutes of the party, I enjoyed the Scottish dance the best out of all the 9 dances.

Also I also enjoyed the Nibbles and Gnash at the end of the day, which had 9 different snacks.

Year 6, had to bring in pictures of ourselves, some were funny. Again, we had to be 9 months or 9 years old in the photos.

I wish that we could do this more often. Just think, next year it will be 10 of everything!

Cool!!

Today it was the 9/9/9 so Year 6 J Adams and Year 6 J Trevaskis organised a 9 day. We had such great fun.

First of all we went from school to Victory Green and formed our 999 figure and waited for the arrival of my Dad in the Islander to take an aerial photo. Then we went back to school and had a nine minute party with pass the parcel with nine layers. Next we did maths for 999 seconds. After that we made paper nines, decorated them then made them into a chain. This was followed by 9 mins extra play by but Chelsea, Kirsty and I decided to stay in and defeat our 9 day recorder challenge with Kirsty and I completed. To round off the morning we went to the Police Station to learn about 999.

After lunch we played cat and mouse then did nine different dances including Tango, Foxtrot and Salsa. To end the day we had the 9 nibbles and gnash which was a little feast.

And now it has come to the end of our nine day we would like to say thank you to everyone who brought in food and everyone who helped in every possible way.

999 Day!

To day we had a 999 day. At 999 day we had lots of fun we did lots of different activities like pass the parcel, nibbles and knash and dancing and lots of different things!

My best part of the day was visiting the police station, because we got to see equipment that the police use. Also we got to put on bullet proof vests, and see how fast cars were going with this laser thing!

Rockhopper Exploration Presentation PDF Print E-mail

Thursday, 07 May 2009
On Tuesday 5th May, two members of Rockhopper Exploration came into school to talk to Year 4-6 about the oil company they work for. Mark and David showed us a slideshow about a drilling rig including the steps to take to drill a hole to check for oil.

David explained how oil is created under the ocean; it was very interesting. He also told us the Latin names for objects including the 2 Latin names for Rockhopper. He showed us two cubes containing some oil; the smaller one was from here in the Falklands. The oil shapes were similar shapes. Mark then showed use a presentation on PowerPoint about the steps to make a well in the seabed and the equipment you need to create one.

Mark explained how each piece of equipment works; he also told us what part of the drilling the equipment helps with. Lots of guessing was involved, for example: how much money do you think it takes to drill one well or how long the well gets, etc. Lots of questions were asked about the Rockhopper Company; most students thinking of reasonable questions.

Everyone learned lots from Mark and David’s jobs and expectations for the future of the Islands oil company’s. All the students enjoyed it.
